Happy Halloween from CSRC!
Happy Halloween from everyone at Chicago Speech and Reading Center!! Today is such an exciting day as kiddos get to wear costumes, participate in parties at school and trick or treating in the afternoon. The fun doesn’t have to stop there! There are tons of activities to do at home. These activities are fun for all ages and contain tons of opportunities to practice vocabulary, following directions, and articulation.
1. Paint or carve pumpkins
What better way to let a little creativity shine than painting or carving a pumpkin? When decorating pumpkins, there are tons of opportunities to practice colors, shapes, prepositions, and describing!
2. Make a fun Halloween snack
Looking for a fun recipe for the holiday? Making mummy pigs in a blanket is a great way to target following directions, describing, and practice some turn taking! Plus, they look spooky and delicious!
3. Bake a yummy treat
Making some Halloween themed cookies is a fun way to continue to celebrate the Halloween! Mix in your favorite candies and colors to make them extra spooky! Following a recipe is a great way to target sequencing, following directions, turn taking, and vocabulary!
4. Read a festive book
Room on the Broom is such a fun book for family read-aloud time! It is a sweet story with rhymes, friendship and inclusivity!
5. Halloween scavenger hunt
This activity is great for targeting Halloween vocabulary. While trick or treating or going for a walk, look around the neighborhood for different things we see at Halloween!
6. Magic ghost craft
Watch as ghosts magically appear on the paper! All you will need is a white crayon and watercolor paints. First draw white ghosts of different sizes all over the white paper. You won’t be able to see them very well at first. Next, pick a watercolor and paint over the whole page. TA-DA! Your little ghosts will show up like magic!
